SUN FACE

The halo signifying an inner spiritual light is first found developed in Buddhist iconography. But prior to the figure of the realized soul who is surrounded by an aura of light, we may have a primal figure who has emerged out of the sun. In the work of children we often find that to begin with a circular form is created, which then becomes like the face of the sun or moon. From this the rays of light emerging from the mask like face assume the function of limbs, reaching out to touch the limits of space.
